Regular TO here. I'll explain everything, since I probably won't be making a 5th one after grinching my own tourneys so many times due to external obligations. In fact, the whole story was supposed to end at 4, but you know what happened to that. Everything's retarded as fuck so sit tight. I'll be writing several post because of "Post Body Too Long". I'll wrap it all in spoiler tags. If I mess it up, sorry.
In all of the regular tourneys, there's a certain idea that's always pushed-- win a tourney, find a star/angel, get a wish from it. Note that angels and stars have a deep relationship, especially in Regular Tourney 1 (check this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5T1VxY4s7U)

Chronological order is rt2 > rt3 > rt1 > rt4, so I'll explain in that way.
>Regular Tourney Act 2
This tourney focuses more on the star aspect of wishes. Most importantly, two kinds of stars-- a binary star, and the pleiades star cluster. Check this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZONGDqaLWWQ

If you check the opening video, it's about a strange girl who finds some insects, plays mahjong with them, finds a star and gets a wish. If you were around those times, you'll note that there were three titles: Mahjong Table Insects, Mahjong with my Friends, and Acta Est Fabula, Plaudite.
>Mahjong Table Insects
Once upon a time, there was a lonely girl with no friends. The only thing she knows is mahjong. One day, while walking, she sees some insects on the road and decides to use them to start a mahjong tourney. So yes, in this tourney, players take the role of the mahjong table insects the TO finds on the road.

In the video, TO catches an escaping butterfly, and several names flash-- 7 sisters of the pleiades and the 4 angels-- then cutting to the butterfly with broken wings. We're now on the second part.
>>9959 Lmao you can't have multiple spoilers. Anyways. I'm not spoilering anything then. >Mahjong with my Friends By grounding that butterfly, TO has accidentally grounded "something". Something ancient and beyond understanding. It has taken notice of the mahjong table, and the insects. >The Stars Display Invariance It's a line from this song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzpL_5CI0WQ [Deleted a whole rant about kant because post body too long] ...HOWEVER, the whole point is that TO notices the stars are weird. Especially the pleiades system, and a weird binary star. She doesn't care, and continues her dumb insect mahjong tourney. One night, under the starry skies, she finds a star and wishes on it. >Act Est Fabula, Plaudite The star splits into two. At this point, TO realizes something-- it's not a star. It's eyes. Intuitively, she understands. It's looking down on her. Binary stars are all eyes of something out there, looking down on her. They hear her wish. This also explains why she's asking "Where is Albireo"-- it's a binary star that was always looking at her. And now she has trapped it inside the box called a regular mahjong tourney. Yes, the one with the stars and the butterfly was the same. The thing grants her wish, a "friend" The whole Regular Tourney ritual was born from this incident. That's it for Regular Tourney Act 2. That's the explanation, it was all a cosmic horror story. About the letter from the OP picture. Yes, the TO's name is Maia. She was named after a star, which made her obsessed about stars. Thanks to the wish, she finally gets a friend. Her name? Ishikawa Emi. We proceed to Regular Tourney 3.

>>9962 >Regular Tourney 3 This is where the story gets a little complicated. This is also a direct prequel to the first regular tourney. Here, we focus on the angel aspect of wishes. Our main TO is Ishikawa Emi, a weird girl with a thesis to complete. This one is not only presented through videos, but short VN segments, which was in this site https://mjg-regular.github.io/ but I don't know where it is anymore. Let's get to it. There's this girl, Ishikawa Emi, who has a thesis on a certain ritual-- a ritual to summon an angel, and make it grant you a wish. Like the Abramelin Operation, but mahjong. You, a random /mjg/ anon, is approached by her in the OP video https://youtu.be/ZArhx0Zkzc0 . She knows about /mjg/ through the very popular anon AnimeLover99, nurse main. And, just like her name, she has mastered all sorts of anime, one of them being Saki, which is why she plays mahjong. Take note, this will be important in the future, and will explain a certain thing that appears in the original site that only the original players probably know about. There is also Nyataracts, another friend of Emi and AnimeLover99, but her role is in Regular Tourney 4. I hope this also explains some parts of that opening video, like the star shots and how someone asks if the ritual can be performed by insects. Emi confides in you, saying she believes you're the one who can win this tourney. She encourages you to play and play. She does her best in organizing things, and updates the anons in the lecture hall as seen in the pre-quali news. However, by the time we reach the post qualifier news, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=biG0rdV2HSE something's different. It's a video from the outside. The mahjong finals match will be played outside, watched by the stars. Sure, you get to the ending, win, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Lj9E4LF6co but for some reason, you get the bad ending. We'll now explain the secret story behind everything. >>9993 I'm writing it as I post

>>9996 There is no "Department of Cultural Anthropology". It's a cult. Through Emi's search of Maia, she finds out about the ritual, written in esperanto. Maia refered to the beings watching her as "Angels" in her notes so Emi assumes they were actual angels. The Cultural Anthropology cult organizes the entire tourney in order to summon the angels into the world, believe it to be divine will. Emi, once just concerned about her friend, becomes absolutely obsessed with angels. It takes over her mind. She sees angels everywhere, watching her, following her. Every night she looks up the sky, all she sees are eyes. Watching and watching and watching. She wants them to come down. They should come down. So, she follows Maia's footsteps, now using actual people instead of insects. The main point of the ritual is to play a pure and divine mahjong free of tricks and gimmicks under the stars. Where was this finals held? In this place: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5T1VxY4s7U , the loneliest island in the world. A hidden island somewhere in point nemo. This is where the location coordinates of the website was pointing at. HOWEVER, there were those opposed to whatever Emi was doing. This was the two famous anons: AnimeLover99 and Nyataracts. However, who really helps them is a girl named Merope. She'll be more prominent in the last installment of the series, but for now know that these three make up a plan to stop Emi: Project IRabuCats. This is where the timer from the site comes in. It's designed the same as the timer of the anime Vivy Flourite Eye's Song. This is another one of the anime AnimeLover99 has mastered. It's basically a failsafe when the world does end, bringing an anon back to time to before the tournament starts.

>>10002 >Regular Tourney 1 This is a weird one. This is two things in one: The story of the Regular Tourney series, and most imporant of all, a love letter to my friends from League 4. It was also explained in the credits scene. I promised them we'd all face each other in a tourney and show them i've improved, but what the fuck do I get? Your fucking retarded gimmickshits. Since no one was making it, I decided to make one myself. But that's not what you're here for. You're here for the story, so here it is. A very VERY important thing to note in the videos is the glitch effects. This is how you'll determine what's real and what's not. Regular Tourney 1 is just one of the many timeloops you suffer in this world of eternal regular mahjong. The abandoned place shown before every qualifier news video is how the world actually is. And all the other places, the rooftop, the city skylines, the sunflower scenes, are all hallucinations to make sense of your own undying life. Notice the bgs glitching. Second Angel, Anonymous https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bCUFbDjtL5g And when we cut back to TO, she's the one glitching, and the world around her is normal. Take note the Steins;Gate BGM. It's a leitmotif to show how time is not what it seems in this world. And when Regular invades the imagined world, everything's all wrong. >>10020 I had a proper ending written up but I suddenly got called in to wageslave

>>10059 What is Regular? Why does she look like Ishikawa Emi? She is basically Emi's interpretation of an Angel. Since the Being from Out of There cannot be comprehended by human minds due to the lack of priori needed (something something kant), Emi's interpretion takes over everyone's mind and views her as such-- a blonde haired girl with wings. Of course, your mind degrades over time as you keep on interacting with the "angel", as represented by how the mode she presents herself degrades over time too (from vn, to a retro vn, to just some text on a screen) The VNs to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5T1VxY4s7U to finally https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzDAtv1eX6M The other angels are simply expressions of Regular herself. Which is why the nameless aspect is forced here-- they don't have real names because they're all Regular. Let's explain the other two angels and what happens. Third Angel, Fuku https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F09QJ9YNlbo This is where you realize something's happening behind the scenes. All the efforts made by Nyataracts and AnimeLover99 comes to fruit in the form of Fuku-- someone they managed to switch in behind Regular's back. Project IRabuCats, a way to return. What the fuck was the plan anyways? It was to win the tourney, and wish for nothing-- temporarily stopping the loops and activating the Vivy Time Return sequence. HOWEVER Regular catches whiff of this right away and kills both Nyataracts and AnimeLover99. Regular keeps emphasizing that Angels don't lie, but she was never an angel in the first place. That was Emi's mistake.

>>10061 Fourth Angel, Rho https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOyoYkbqQRc Nothing particularly happens because Regular has stomped out everyone, or at least she thinks. We get to the Island Scene https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5T1VxY4s7U This is point nemo. The island where the end of Regular Tourney 3 takes place. Your addled mind now sees stars as angels, and you approach the weird angel, who talks to you through the degraded version of how she usually appears. The more you stare at the angel, the more your mind breaks without you even noticing. She'll whisper sweet lies to you, tell you what you want to her, all for you to keep playing a mahjong pure and divine. Anything so you'll focus on nothing but mahjong. Her very first mahjong, free of tricks and gimmicks. No need to think about the riddles, or the mysteries around the tournament. This is all a game of Regular Mahjong. She tells you to wish on a star. A strange star in the sky, which will grant you wishes. But there are no stars. Only eyes, watching you play over and over again, like a kid watching insects wriggle on the soil. The Finals Opening https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gyQt3RPg9E The words shows are of course, reflections on what I was thinking at the end of the league. But aside from that, you are now armed with the context needed to understand the scenes passing through it all. The tournament happens, a winner wins, and of course he wishes for something. Project IRabuCats fails, and an Eternal Game of Mahjong loops over and over again... or does it? Enter, Regular Tourney 4. Or more known as Regular Tourney 1, Part ?????

Regular Tourney 5 would simply be a repeat of Regular Tourney 3, but this time on the side of Nyataracts, AnimeLover99, and a new TO named Secret. But I'm not doing that tourney anymore because I'm scared I'd get called in again out of nowhere. Which is why I'm dumping the whole story here like this. >Opening https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUu4v2b7nPU The first parts explain what happens after the end of Regular Tourney 3. Everyone dies from the Stars descending, angels rampantly make you play a regular game of riichi mahjong. But behind the scenes, away from the eyes of the Angels, was a secret survivor-- Secret. The third part of the Anti-Emi team. She goes around the broken world trying to find mahjongers from an endless hill of corpses. Since your prioris are all messed up thanks to whatever the fuck was summoned, you view Secret in this weird black and white world. She goes through these time loops of Regular Tourney 1s, trying to find a way to free everyone. But the problem is that she knows nothing about mahjong. Still, she keeps looping. The background changes, and you're still seeing black and backgrounds that say bg_whatever the place is. Notice that these are the places you cycle through in Regular Tourney 1.

>>10111 Secret keeps looping again and again, trying to crack the right wish and the right person to escape. But nothing works. Until she realizes that the wishes aren't the answer. Project IRabuCats didn't work because it relied on a wish made up by the angels. Through these loops, Secret has learned how to play mahjong, and at Loop 10332, she executes her plan: She secretly makes a tourney of her own. She performs the original ritual that brought this thing herself. But that's not all. She'll add a gimmick secretly. The tourney had a second lobby, meant for gimmick games. Here are the gimmicks I thought up >2v2 with my AI. You and an AI vs another anon with an AI. >Puzzle x Riichi Mahjong. 8 people, first four people to solve the puzzle that reveals the lobby gets to play, the other 4 are disqualified >Miko Mahjong - The goal is to have the lowest score. However, in dealer turn, any points you take off from others will be doubled and subtracted to your final score Gimmickshit like that. But happening in parallel to the regular tourney. The ending is that in the finals, the finalists gets to decide what to play-- a gimmick, or a regular game. If tied, it becomes a 2v2. If regular tourneys win, Regular Tourney 5 would simply be a normal tourney with no more stories. Because my mission is complete, I finally made /mjg/ admit they like regular tourneys a lot and I don't need the crutch of a weird schizophrenic story to entice anons to play, since that was why I wrote everything up. BUT if the gimmickshit won, I'd be forced to make Regular Tourney 3, Part 2. That's it, that's the entire story of Regular Tourney. Sorry for grinching most of these tourneys.
